Sven Kacirek

Sven Kacirek was born in Hamburg, Germany. He studied at the conservatory in Arnhem,  the Drummers Collective in New York City, and the Musikhochschule in Hamburg. He has worked with Shabaka Hutchings, John McEntire, Nils Frahm, Sofia Jernberg, Marc Ribot and Stefan Schneider.

His album “The Kenya Sessions” (2011) received the award of the German Record Critics.

Kacirek has been travelling to East Africa since 2008 to work on various projects. The Kacirek and Schneider field recording of the prolific Kenyan Dodo artist Ogoya Nengo was released on Honest Jons Records in 2015. 

Sven Kacirek was nominated by the Hamburger Musikpreis HANS as “best musician of the year” in 2015 and 2017.

Kacirek has also composed several works for contemporary dance pieces with Johnny Lloyd and Antje Pfundtner, Daniel Martins and Johnny Lloyd.
