Emre Akal

Emre Akal lives in Munich as an author and director. His works, which move at the interface of choreography, installation and image composition, have been seen at the Stadttheater Bakirköy in Istanbul, the Münchner Kammerspiele, the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin and the independent scene in Munich, Stuttgart and Vienna, among others. In 2015 he received the Dance and Theatre Prize of the City of Stuttgart for his play Ostwind, and in 2020 he received the exil DramatikerInnenpreis of the Wiener Wortstätten for the theatre text Hotel Pink Lulu - Die Ersatzwelt. As a director, he was awarded the City of Munich’s Theatre Promotion Prize in 2020. Together with 86 other artists from all over Germany, he initiated the Ayşe X Staatstheater in 2019 as a possible model for a theatre of the future. In 2021, Emre Akal is joining the Münchner Kammerspiele on a longer-term basis and is currently working at the house as an artist in residence - as a writer and as a director in various projects.
