Alek Niemiro

Alek Niemiro, born in 1992, assisted at the Warsaw “Och-teatr” after graduating from high school in 2012. He studied philosophy and theatre studies at the Free University of Berlin until 2015. During this time, he assisted at the Deutsches Theater Berlin, among others with Ivan Panteleev. During his time in Berlin, he created his first works at the “Sophiensaele”. From 2015 to 2019 he was a permanent assistant director at the Thalia Theater, where he worked with directors such as Ewelina Marciniak, Bastian Kraft, Luk Perceval, Johan Simons, Jette Steckel and Sebastian Nübling. Evenings at the Thalia Theatre include: “Patrick Bateman - An American Psycho”, “Peter Weiss/Marat Sade” and “The End of Eddy” (invited to Theater der Welt). He won the “Start Off” competition for young directors at the Lichthof Theatre in Hamburg in June 2018. In May 2019, his next work at the Thalia Theater was “In der Schwebe”. Since March 2020 he has been studying directing at the Mozarteum Salzburg. He also staged his first opera there. In summer 2020, he created his first audiovisual installation at Fleetstreet Hamburg. His most recent projects have taken place at the TR Warszawa, the Stary Teatr Krakow, the Münchner Kammerspiele and the Left Bank Theatre in Kyiv.
