Wilke Weermann

Wilke Weermann was born in Emden in 1992. From 2012 to 2013, he was an assistant director at the Deutsches Theater Göttingen. From 2013 to 2014, he studied comparative literature and philosophy at the FU Berlin and worked as an assistant director and musician at the BAT Studiotheater and Ballhaus Ost. In 2014, he began studying directing at the Akademie für Darstellende Kunst Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg. In the same year, his first drama ABRAUM was nominated for the Retzhofer Dramapreis 2015, only to be awarded the main prize of the Münchner Förderpreis für deutschsprachige Dramatik in 2016. The premiere took place at Kammer 3 of the Münchner Kammerspiele in early 2017 and was subsequently invited to the Körber Studio Junge Regie. At the same time, his own production DER ENTFESSELTE WOTAN was shown there.
In the 2023/24 season, Wilke Weermann will direct, overwrite and translate in Bamberg, at the Deutsches Theater Berlin and in Münster. In March 2024, Wilke Weermann will be awarded the Kurt Hübner Directing Prize for his work UNHEIM, as jury member Rita Thiele explains: “Wilke Weermann’s hilarious dystopia is a thoroughly contemporary play about the dangers of digitalization. His production also demonstrates how masterfully he knows how to use the analog medium of theater.  However, these never overshadow the great ensemble of players, with whom Wilke Weermann has obviously worked with great attention to detail.
