Status Quote - Theater in transition: Women directors in conversation

60 years of the Berlin Theatertreffen, four years of women’s quotas: for theater critics and Theatertreffen jurors Sabine Leucht, Petra Paterno and Katrin Ullmann, this is reason enough to take a closer look: is the quota a carte blanche for women directors to get coveted festival invitations? Or is it the lever that sets in motion encrusted patterns of thought and action? And how do those affected see it themselves?
In their debate volume “Status Quote”, published by Henschel-Verlag in 2023, all female directors who have been invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen since the introduction of the 50% women’s quota have their say. They comment on individual careers and experiences of sexism, the gender pay gap and the (male) cult of genius as well as structural discrimination and new opportunities.
At the Habibi Kiosk, two of the editors will present their book and discuss it with the directors Nora Abdel-Maksoud and Marie Schleef.
