On the streets of Afghanistan, women are protesting against their discrimination and that of minorities under the Taliban regime. They are demanding the right to education and work.
Despite brutal repressions, the revolutionary protests continue in Iran. They are led by women, sexual and ethnic minorities and supported by all social classes. Their goal is the overthrow of the repressive regime of the Islamic Republic; the common cry is that of the Kurdish freedom movement: “Jîn, Jiyan, Azadî”.
In Syria, the 2011 revolution also triggered a feminist movement, carried by women of different social classes and ethnicities. Assad’s regime, with the support of Russia, started a war against its own population, against which it is still committing human rights crimes and which are being dealt with by women’s rights activists in exile.
The event will focus on the women’s movements in these three countries and bring together their experiences and perspectives. How do journalists, authors, women’s rights activists and activists from these three countries look at their struggles for freedom? What kind of dialogue and exchange do they have with each other? What feminist ties do they share and what solidarity do they call for?
Talk with texts and voices of women from Afghanistan, Iran and Syria.
