Lillian Canright

Lillian Canright grew up in Chicago. She graduated from Bard College with a BA in Film and Electronic Arts and received her MFA from Tokyo University of the Arts. Her graduation work, “AIDORU clean version,” was awarded the top prize in her department and is in the collection of the University Art Museum, Tokyo University of the Arts. With a background in literature and philosophy as well as video production and cinema history, her primary interests lie in performance, persona, and the degradation, distortion, and replication of images. Lillian Canright is also a member of Art Translators Collective, a Tokyo-based translation group dedicated to expanding the meaning and potential of translation as a creative act. Recently, she has shown a video at PACT Zollverein, engaged in a residency at Kinosaki International Art Center (as part of Art Translators Collective), and completed a five-year experiment in online mixed media performance.
