Matthias Jakisic

Born in St. Pölten, Lower Austria in 1977, Matthias Jakisic has been a professional musician since the age of 17. Initially touring mostly with bands in Austria and abroad, he began to focus more on studio work in the mid-1990s and participated in over 100 recordings, including collaborations with Phil Gould (Level42), Christian Eigner (Depeche Mode), Al Slavik (Alphaville), Bauchklang, Peter Kruder, Otto Lechner, Hallucination Company, Kommando Elephant and many more.

After spending some time in the UK, he worked on his first dance/theatre productions for Dschungel in Vienna, from where he was recruited as a composer by the city’s Burgtheater. He then spent eight years at the Burgtheater collaborating on numerous productions including with Peter Stein, Georg Schmidleitner and Herbert Fritsch. At the same time, he worked as a composer at the Salzburg Festival, Schauspielhaus Graz, Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna, Landestheater St. Pölten, Theater Regensburg, Schauspielhaus Salzburg and others.

Matthias Jakisic has toured in 40 countries with guest appearances including at the Sydney Opera House, Istanbul Jazz Festival, London Art Festival, Rio Cello Festival and the Taipei Art Festival.

He is currently engaged as a composer at the Theater in der Josefstadt where he has created music for plays including Daniel Kehlmann’s “Reise der Verlorenen” and has also appeared on stage. Alongside the theatre, he works increasingly in films and series including most recently collaborating with Paul Haslinger on the scores for “Fear the Walking Dead” (AMC), “The Irregulars” (Netflix) and “The Other Me” (David Lynch).

In 2022, he signed to the Collegno label which released his first string quartet album, “Fragmente”.
