Hannah Waldow

Hannah Waldow is a German director and writer.

She studied theatre studies at LMU Munich and initially worked as an assistant at the Ensemble Theatre in Augsburg and at the Munich Theatre… and so on, but also in film. Following her voluntary social year in the dramaturgy department at the Münchner Kammerspiele, she worked there from 2022 to 2026 as a permanent assistant director, collaborating with Felicitas Brucker, Jette Steckel, Falk Richter, Wu Tsang and many others.

In 2024, Hannah presented her first directing exercise in the Werkraum at the Münchner Kammerspiele: “WHEN I RETURN ONE DAY, AS A PINE TREE, PLEASE”, based on the collection of short stories „Entkommen“ by Joshua Groß.

Hannah is particularly interested in new drama and socially critical reinterpretations of existing texts. By combining language with choreographic elements, she brings the materiality of a text to life on stage.

Her focus lies on developing a shared language within the production team during the rehearsal process, which is then made tangible for the audience.

In her productions, she traces individuals who often live in so-called ‘in-between worlds’ and imbues their fragility with a radiant quality. In doing so, she constantly explores the often invisible boundaries and addresses existential questions.

In 2026, she founded the multimedia theatre collective Die Zelle together with the artist and musician Nikolaus von Bemberg.
