Leoni Schulz

Leoni Schulz was born in 1982 in Frankfurt am Main and she grew up in Germany, Pakistan and Zimbabwe. She studied political sciences in Frankfurt am Main and then went on to study drama at the Konrad Wolf Film University Babelsberg. Freelance acting work took her to establishments such as the Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam and the Landestheater Schleswig-Holstein. In 2013, Leoni appeared at the Schaubühne Berlin in Volker Lösch’s dramatization of Draußen vor der Tür (The Man Outside). She also played a supporting role in Katrin Grebbe’s film Tore tanzt (Nothing Bad Can Happen), which was officially selected for the Cannes Film Festival in 2013. From 2014 to 2020, she was a permanent member of the ensemble at Staatstheater Mainz where she played roles such as Marwood in Miss Sara Sampson, Margarita in Der Meister und Margarita (The Master and Margarita), Brunhild in Die Nibelungen (The Nibelungs) and Chram in LJOD – Das Eis – Die Trilogie (LJOD – The Ice – The Trilogy) by Vladimir Sorokin. Furthermore, Leoni appeared in the co-production Sleepless with the British group Analogue as well as in the dance co-production Hochzeit (Wedding) by Koen Augustijnen and Rosalba Torres Guerrero. In 2018/2019, together with the director Kathrin Herm, she developed the solo work In Memoriam Anna Politkowskaja, which was based on the piece by Stefano Massini and shown in Mainz.

Leoni has been a permanent guest member of the ensemble at the Münchner Kammerspiele since 2020. In her first season she can be seen in Eine Jugend in Deutschland (A German Childhood), based on the autobiography of Ernst Toller (directed by Jan-Christoph Gockel) and will appear in the world première of Clemens J. Setz’ piece Flüstern in stehenden Zügen (Whispers On Stationary Trains – directed by Visar Morina).
