Campus #8 Workshops

Workshop 1
“I AM IN TRAINING, DON’T KISS ME” Claude Cahun at the Kunstverein Munich 1997
Workshop leader: Heike Ander
Saturday December 3, 2022
12-14 and 15-17:30, Archive Room of the Kunstverein Munich

Heike Ander was co-curator of the exhibition “Claude Cahun - Selbstdarstellungen”, which the Kunstverein München showed at the Pinakothek der Moderne in 1997. In her workshop, she devotes herself once again to the images of this exhibition and reflects on the focal points of the content at that time on the basis of archive materials. What could or should a corresponding exhibition look like in 2022? Which decisions, which focus, which selection, which scenographies would be conceivable today? Against the backdrop of Claude Cahun’s life and work, the workshop will reexamine and discuss the available image and text material in order to sketch out possible current exhibition approaches.

Workshop 2
“I want to decide for myself what is masculine!”
Workshop leader: Patrice Grießmeier
Saturday 3 December 2022
12-14 and 15-17:30, Glasspitz Münchner Kammerspiele

Workshop on the topic of non-binaryity, queerness and queer-washing. The main aspect will be the medium of television and theater. What is masculinity? Can men be feminists? In the workshop we will deal with queer representation in films and series and look at male and female characters from a critical perspective and discuss them.

Workshop 3
“I see myself, therefore I am.” Claude Cahun’s Self-Portraits
Workshop leader: Lena Rosa Händle
Saturday December 3, 2022
12-14 and 15-17:30, Habibi Kiosk Münchner Kammerspiele

The avant-garde, queer self-portraits of Claude Cahun, we take as a starting point to enter a utopian space. How can I reinvent myself through a self-portrait? What figures, gestures, codes, and gazes can create queer identities? How can we appropriate or reinvent them?

In queer feminist artistic approaches, subject and object are often united in one body, developing visual languages in which the body and its boundaries are negotiated, dissolved, explored, and become the subject of art. Through appropriations and re-enactments we can refer to works of art and establish continuities.

In addition to the practical part, Lena Rosa Händle will present her work: these hands -a world without equal, 2022 which she created for the exhibition TO BE SEEN. Queer Lives 1900-1950, at the NS- Doku Zentrum München, will be presented. In this work, the artist explores the perpetuation of hidden lesbian codes from the 1920s to the present day, referencing the artist Claude Cahun, among others.
